PlusX
Art space in the radio
Since 2020
Co-Curator
PlusX is an art space dedicated to sound, text and performance. The project finds its form as a monthly show on Cashmere Radio and in regular publications through its website. Contributors are invited to delve into forms of communal listening and to highlight sound as a pulsating experience shared with others. Every collaborative work showcased on-air becomes part of an archive committed to auditory art practices. Moreover, written contributions on the PlusX home page complement the sound-based output with theoretical analysis, poetry and non-fictional outtakes. By inviting participating artists to invite others, PlusX aims to cultivate a limitless nexus of collaborators. PlusX supports fellow anti-racist, radical feminist and queer voices.
PlusX emerged from a desire to create the kind of artistic program its founders felt was missing during their art studies in Berlin. Rather than waiting for institutional opportunities, they set out to build an alternative community for artistic production and exchange. Without the resources to establish a physical space, they accepted an invitation from Cashmere Radio and instead founded an art space on the radio. From its inception, PlusX has also been a response to the increasingly branded and market-oriented modes of exhibition-making surrounding it, proposing instead a slower, collaborative, and process-based approach to artistic production and listening. Nikolas Brummer, Sebastjan Brank, Jan Kunkel, Franziska König, Gina Merz and Donna Schons are co-curators of PlusX.
